Information for Members


The Bear Valley Tennis Club, with its principle place of business in Bear Valley, California is a private club operated for the benefit of its dues-paying members, the families of Bear Valley School and the general public. The object of the Club is to promote and coordinate tennis and social events.

The Club’s Board of Directors represents the entire membership.

In order that everyone can enjoy the tennis facilities, the Club has specific rules and regulations controlling the use of the tennis courts. Any person who violates the rules of conduct and/or dress code on the tennis courts, does not pay dues or charges, or whose conduct is injurious to the reputation of the club or club members may be suspended for any period of time or expelled from the membership or from use of the courts.

In case any member of the immediate family of a Club member who is entitled to family privileges shall be deemed guilty of violating any rule of conduct, the offender’s privileges may be temporarily or permanently withdrawn.

General Rules, Policies and Procedures

1) Members will be charged annual dues of $150. Members will be billed for dues on February 1 shall be paid by check no later than March 1. Dues not paid within 30 days shall become delinquent.

2) All members have the duty and obligation to maintain proper and prompt payment of their yearly dues and charges. BVTC Board of Directors may, after written notice, suspend or expel any member whose dues and/or charges are more than two months delinquent. Members who have been expelled for the non-payment of dues and/or charges shall not be entitled to a refund of their initiation fees. A late fee of $25 will be added to all balances not received within 30 days of the statement date.

3) Should a member wish to terminate their membership, or upon death of a member, memberships are resalable at an amount that is at minimum a fixed price set by the BVTC Board. The current fixed price set by the board is $200. Members must notify the board in writing of their intent to sell their membership and are then given one year from the date the letter is received to find a buyer for their membership. Click here for application to transfer membership. When a membership is sold, 25% of the value of the membership is paid by the buyer to the BVTC. The other 75% goes to the seller of the membership. Memberships may also be transferred to an immediate family member. To transfer a membership, 10% of the value of the membership is paid by the recipient of the membership to the BVTC.

4) All members with guests are asked to acknowledge their guest’s attendance by signing in at the Bear Valley Adventure Company. At that time guests should fill out the BVTC Hold Harmless Agreement. The guest fees are $10.00/person/day. If you have three guests playing with you, the cost will be $30.

5) No food or snacks are allowed on the tennis court. All drinks must be in unbreakable containers. No smoking is allowed.

6) Cars are to be parked only in designated parking areas.

7) Pets are not permitted on the tennis courts.

8) The club will not be responsible for lost or stolen items.

9) Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

10) Toys, skates, skateboards, bicycles and all other non-tennis equipment are not allowed on the courts.

11) Tennis players only are permitted inside the fenced court areas. Accompanying people should remain outside the fenced areas.

12) Profane or abusive language or disorderly conduct will not be tolerated. All normal rules of etiquette must be observed so the Club facilities can be enjoyed by all.

13) Lost keys will be charged $25.00 replacement fee.

Tennis Rules

1) Tennis courts will be open seven days a week, weather permitting, from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

2) All business pertaining to lessons will be conducted through the BV Adventure Company.

3) Only tennis shoes with smooth soles will be allowed on the court. Running, soccer shoes, or other types of shoesthat may mark or damage the courts are not allowed.

4) Reservation of Courts: Courts #1, #2 and #3 may be reserved by Club Members in good standing. Reservations can be made up to 7 days in advance though the on-line reservations link. Maximum reservation time is one and one-half hours for singles play and two hours for doubles play. Any one member cannot appear on multiple reservations for the same day. Reservations can also be made by calling the Bear Valley Adventure Company or in person at the Bear Valley Adventure Company. Reservations will be available for viewing for members on the web site. Court #4 is for walk-ups. If the court is occupied you can sign up for the court on the board at courtside. Families of Bear Valley School Students and Bear Valley School staff will be able to play on the courts free of charge.

5) Players who do not claim their reserved court within 15 minutes will forfeit the reservation and the court will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

6) Unreserved courts are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Non-members must sign up at the Bear Valley Adventure Company or the Bear Valley Sport Shop, pay usage fees and a key deposit, and get a key for the courts.

7) Playing on a reserved court prior to the time the court has been reserved does not effect the reserved court time. Players must terminate play when the reserved court time begins. Players are expected to exercise sportsmanship and good judgment.

8) Tournaments approved by the BVTC board will be held at designated times throughout the season. Every effort will be made to accommodate members play in conjunction with a tournament, but courts will be available on a limited basis. Any tennis programs that involve court time must be approved by the BVTC Board.

9) Tennis players shall all observe the rules of tennis and tennis etiquette.

10) Only four persons may play on a court at any one time. Exceptions allowed are group lessons involving more than four people.

11) When you use the courts, be sure to lock each open gate from the outside so it is easy for the next person who arrives to open. If you lock one of the gates from the inside it is very difficult for the next person to reach through and unlock.

12) No set of rules can cover all circumstances; when there is competition for court access during peak times, courtesy, good will and consideration of fellow members should be exercised.
